A Human Approach

Aha Moment Monday

Reading time: 66 seconds

We’ve heard for years that it’s good to think positively.
But when you watch the news it’s tough to stay positive seeing how much negativity there is in the world
The oceans are warming, terrorists are attacking, diseases are spreading, lay-offs are happening and housing prices are rising.
(Aren’t I just Little Miss Ray of Sunshine??)

The truth is, though, that negative emotions can create a “nervous system chaos” according to the Institute of HeartMath.
Here’s why.
The heart beats out the largest electromagnetic field of the body. When you’re in a positive mood and thinking thoughts of gratitude, love or appreciation, your heart beats out a specific signal. It’s actually a state of high vibration compared to that of a negative attitude – struggle, sadness, depression – that emits a lower vibration.

So if we live in a “reactive” state – allowing outside influences to affect our attitude – we’re actually ignoring our right and ability to control our state of being.

But let’s shift that attention off ourselves for a minute.
Wouldn’t you agree that some people feel so good to be around and others, well, not-so-much?
And don’t you find sometimes that you’re listening to someone’s words but sensing a message to the contrary?

Aha – emotions are our truest form of communication

Your electromagnetic field is directly related to your emotions; in fact, the field actually changes with your emotions. It always tells the truth.
And because we’re all cut from the same mold, so-to-speak, we pick up on others’ vibrations. We tune in. We feel what others are feeling.

“By learning to shift our emotions, we are changing the information coded into the magnetic fields that are radiated by the heart, and that can impact those around us” says Rollin McCraty, Ph.D., Director of Research at the Institute.
What’s really critical, as McCraty points out is that, “We are fundamentally and deeply connected with each other and the planet itself.”

While your view – reactive or proactive – will affect your personal nervous system, it will also affect others.
At the end of the day, seeing the glass half full is good for everyone.
(especially if the glass contains Pinot Grigio)
