For my birthday I received a mug inscribed with, “Wake up and be awesome”.
And I thought, why not?
Woodrow Wilson said, “We are not here merely to make a living. We are here to enrich the world with a finer spirit of hope and achievement – and we impoverish ourselves if we forget the errand.”
I think we do forget and here’s why I think so.
We’ve only ever known oursevles to be just us. We have nothing to compare “us” to. Consquently, we don’t, often enough, stop to consider the frequent times in a day when we impact others. We interact – in person, on social media, through email – and each time choose how much of ourselves we wish to invest in others. And since the law states that what we put out we get back, perhaps Wilson has a point when he says, “…we improverish ourselves…” when we don’t enrich.
Aha – we’re doing ourselves a disservice when we hold back.
What’s so cool is that we don’t need to try and be awesome. We already are!
I think we just need to let our awesomeness shine through a little more often.
Beam me up!
