So what was the big new year’s resolution this year?
Lose weight? Exercise more? Procrastinate less?
There are certain times of the year that are so suited to goal setting.
Goal setting can be an invigorating process that gets you excited about the end result.
And by this time in the new year, how are you doing with your goals and resolutions? Still on track?
You were taught to set goals the S.M.A.R.T. way, right?
Make goals Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and set a Time frame.
While I agree with that (except the Attainable part – it’s more fun to set lofty goals!!) goal “setting” doesn’t necessarily help you accomplish results.
Aha – there’s a difference between goal setting and goal achieving!
Goal setting is something you prepare for the future.
Goal achieving is a process that requires thoughts, feelings and action steps you do NOW to become your goals.
Take weight loss for example.
The THOUGHT process has to be about weight “release”. After all, anything you “lose” (like your keys) you’re likely to go looking for. You want to release weight, not lose it.
Create a clear mental picture of who you want to become and begin immediately to FEEL like that healthier person!
Then make a decision to commit to a series of ACTION steps so that every day you’re owning a new you.
The RESULTS will take care of themselves.
Simple, right?
Not easy – I didn’t say easy – but simple – thoughts, feelings, actions, results.
Goals aren’t things, they’re an extension of who you are.
You have to grow into your goals.
And the really good news is that you’re in charge!!
Ready….set…..goal!!!!!!
