A Human Approach

Jae Rang Headshot

It comes down to doughnuts.

One of my favourite things to do is to brainstorm.

I love coming up with new ideas or new ways to do things.

I don’t take much credit for the effort though because brainstorming for me is like channeling.

I focus on the issue then just stay open and let the ideas flow in.

Sometimes what comes out of my mouth sounds absurd and it’s not uncommon that my ideas meet with resistance.

I don’t mind and heck, we all need a good laugh once in a while!

The thing is, I believe brainstorming sessions shouldn’t be censored as you never know what you might say that will spark an idea with someone else.

Further, you have to identify what you don’t want in order to clarify what you do want.

Do you think that being timid about sharing ideas can potentially kybosh the next big breakthrough?

And … are we doing our progress justice by casting off laughable ideas when at first appearance they don’t align?

Aha!  “Focus on the doughnut, not the hole.”  ~  Vera N. Rang  (my mom)

A brainstorming session is meant to take your idea or issue or project to a new level.

Therefore the focus needs to squarely be on the problem or the project.

Diverting your attention to, say, how you might feel about sharing your ideas, is actually diluting your energy and not allowing you to be totally present in building the goal.

Only when your efforts are centered on the goal are you more likely to polish a silly-sounding idea.  It might be a diamond in the rough!
