Aha Moment Monday
It’s a funny thing about practice.
The more we do something the better we get at it.
The more we drive our new car, the better we handle it.
The more we speak that new language, the more proficient communicators we are.
The more we lift, the more we can lift, and more easily.
When we practice something we create memory: mental memory, muscle memory and often both.
Eventually that practice becomes a habit, something we do so automatically that we barely need to think our way through it.
Creating a habit is like fueling a fire.
At first it’s a lot of effort for a little spark and eventually it takes far less effort to build a blaze that takes on a life of its own.
Aha – What you give energy to, grows
Just like a seedling grows with nutrient soil, water and sunlight, when you give energy to an idea, a passion, a task, or a person, growth is guaranteed. It’s a law of nature.
This is good news if the habit we want to create is a positive one. That repetitive, positive investment of effort pays off!
The bad news is that the same rules apply to bad habits. The more often we blow off exercise, show up late for meetings, or toss recyclable items into the trash, the easier it gets to repeat the action…unconsciously.
Sometimes building a new habit feels like you’re pushing a bolder up hill. It takes deliberate, conscious, significant effort.
But if you are clear of your goal and are super excited about bringing it into reality, that emotion fuels the effort and makes it far easier.
“What you think, you become. What you feel, you attract. What you imagine, you create.” ~ Buddha
This is the year you adopt that one new habit that’ll make all the difference.
Now go kick some serious butt!!
