Aha Moment Monday
Do you remember when you were a kid and played tag in the back yard with your friends running barefoot on the grass?
Was that the best, or what??
I’m sure it had something to do with the unstructured play with whoever showed up that day – after all, impromptu parties are always the best – but let’s not discount that great feeling associated with kicking off those shoes!
There’s a term for it now: “Grounding” (or “earthing”)
It seems we’ve conditioned ourselves to allow barriers between us and the ground; so common, that we had to reinvent the concept of going barefoot.
There’s good reason for revisiting the concept especially if your cell phone is nearby.
First, here’s a little “circuit” education.
In electrical engineering, ‘ground’ or earth is the reference point in an electrical circuit from which voltages are measured as the earth serves as a pretty constant reference point. Aside from electrical circuits being ground for safety reasons, the earth itself can be used as a conductor.
A conductor, you marvel? (I knew you would).
Yes – and as electrical beings ourselves The Earth is a natural source of electrons and subtle electrical fields, which are essential for proper functioning of immune systems, circulation, synchronization of biorhythms and other physiological processes
As Dr. Mercola puts it, ““Your immune system functions optimally when your body has an adequate supply of electrons, which are easily and naturally obtained by barefoot contact with the Earth.”
In fact “grounding” is hailed as the ultimate antioxidant and anti-Inflammatory
But with the advent of wood, rugs, and plastics, we’ve broken the pattern of our evolutionary history of continuous contact with the earth … in the name of progress. Further, we expose ourselves to disruptive fields like electromagnetic pollution from our devices.
The effect?
Dis-ease.
So, if the easiest access to antioxidants is right outside our doorstep, why have we lost the connection?
Isn’t eating blueberries enough?
Aha – Allow your planet – YOUR planet – to feed you in ALL ways.
You see your body is somewhat conductive because it contains a large number of charged ions (called electrolytes) dissolved in water therefore your blood and other body fluids are good conductors. Free electrons can move about your body. Grounding is a calorie-free way of getting an essential anti-inflammatory!
Here’s a tip. Leather is also a conductor (think of the source and you’ll understand why) whereby plastics and rubber are insulators. If the weather isn’t conducive to naked toes, at least wear leather shoes to allow the beneficial flow from the earth to you.
Let’s stay connected.
