‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through my house
William was stirring, me baking in my Christmas blouse.
We hung up our stockings, decorated and cooked with care
In hopes that our family members soon would be there.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
We ran to the door to see what was the matter
The car door opens and to our eyes should appear
Lynda wearing a sweater with eight tiny reindeer
With a handsome old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it was my dad, a.k.a. St. Nick.
How his eyes twinkled! His dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
In hand were his famous pancakes wrapped up in a bow
Complete with berries & syrup, icing sugar like snow.
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
He nodded in approval of the rest of our spread
More rapid than eagles the rest of the family they came,
William whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
C’mon Fred, Nikki, and Amy, you dancer, get mixin’
Barb & Larry, is that the comet named cupid? Start fixin’
the casserole. Natalie, your apron is there on the wall
Splash away, mash away, stash away all.
We shared laughs and hugs then went straight to work
Of festive gifting and making good of storytelling homework.
In the end we heard them exclaim as they drove out of sight.
Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!
