Take Your Heart, to Heart

Aha! Moment Monday

Do you have a wellness program at work?
You know – a “wellness program” – an initiative that encourages you to make your health a little more of a priority.

Your answer might depend on where you work.
Just over one third of companies between 50 and 100 employees have some kind of wellness initiative whereas over 80% of companies that employ more than 10,000 employees fully support one.

Wellness programs are known to improve engagement and lower absenteeism not to mention reduce that strain on the health insurance side of the benefit package.
But it’s not uncommon that not everyone in the company participates – even when it’s free or fun (or both) – because it means doing something different.
We don’t mind change but we don’t like being changed.

A well-thought-out program offers a variety of levels of entry and ways in which one might participate.
The challenge is, when we’ve been doing what we’ve been doing for some time with no real threats, the desire to stay on that path is overwhelming.

Is your vitality and happiness worth a second look?
Even if improvement takes the face of mentoring, training or leading an element of the program, don’t we owe it to ourselves to always be recalibrating our course?
